The
Mini Skiff was a custom design request for a hull larger than a
canoe but not as large as a full skiff. The intent was a car-toppable
boat that was stable, had large capacity, easy to build and easy
to customize.
The
Mini Skiff is not meant for open waters as it only has the same
hull depth as typical store-bought canoes. But it will do great
on calm waters while hauling 2 adults and a cooler for fishing or
recreational boating.
Permanent
seats are not required due to the 2 frame sets that are glued and
fiberglass to the hull. This allows a builder to customize the hull
seating to suit their needs.
The
Mini Skiff has a full transom and square stern but it is not meant
to hold more than a 2 hp motor. While the hull is very stable as
compared to a canoe, weight on board will have to be balanced for
ideal stability. Propulsion of the boat can come from small motor,
oars, or even paddles. But the intent was for an electric trolling
motor.
Keep
in mind that this design is somewhat small for a skiff. So some
care will have to be taken to maintain comfortable balance.
