JEM Watercraft

I'm considering building a boat. ultimately I want a sot kayak, but they look pretty complicated for a beginner. So, I like the touring piroque tv 15-32 but need some advise, is this a good first boat build ? I have carpentry experience but never did anything like this.
I weigh in at 260lbs and this boat looks like it can carry a load. I'm even considering a trolling motor with foot steering.
So with that in mind is this a good choice or should I be looking at something else ?

it should be fine for a patient beginner.

it was my first stitch and glue boat and it came out great. just take your time and ask questions when needed

when you stitch the wood over the jig does it hold in place firmly until it is glued?

JEM, I saw on another post where the guy made 2 electric Pirogues and he used the tvw but made them only 12 1/2 feet long was this a total recalculation of the original or was it just shortened in the rear by 2 1/2 feet ?
the reason I ask Is that I would like to haul the boat in the bed of my truck, which is 8' with the tailgate down and with the shorter version I wouldn't have so much overhang. That shorter one still held 400-450lb

I believe he just bobbed off the end.

I left the jigs in place until I had completely glued and sanded the filets on the exterior, then removed them to finish out the inside

JEM, by bobbing off the end and installing a transom, would 2 1/2 feet have a large effect on this boats properties ? I'm assuming that I could build according to plans then install a transom and cut off the excess part of boat. or just install the bracing form where I would want the transom and epoxy the form to the sides then beef up the form to create the transom.hope you get my drift

The balance and weight capacity get impacted. You'll have to scoot your seat a little more forward.

oops. Well this is embarrassing.

I drew that square stern hull! It was about 18 months ago and it went right of of my head. Geez...
