Am I right in assuming that the coaming on the 13' Laker is a single width piece of the plywood? When looking at other pictures it seems much thicker. Am having trouble figuring out how it sits in the opening. Is it flush with the underside of the deck, halfway down, flush with the topside of the deck? Any input would be greatly appreciated. Want to stitch that in today during deck assembly.

The free version has a coaming piece that sits vertically on the deck.

The pay-for version has horizontal layers stacked up.

Assuming that the versions are the same in sequence then the coaming goes on after the deck is finished and glassed onto the hull so you should not be worrying about it at this stage. The boat should look something like this before adding the coaming:
