New Fish

Post by Barneseye »

G'day.
Just joined the crew.
Been cutting panels for my new Merrimac.
Bit late to worry about it now as i've already started, but i'm hoping i've made a good choice.
I wanted the stability of a recreational canoe but i hope the Merrimac will paddle nicely just to enjoy paddling.
You experienced builders seem to be generous with your comments and tips for us rookies so i hope nobody minds if i bug you with silly questions every so often.
Happy trails.

Welcome aboard, Barneseye. The Merrimac should be a nice boat. Ask away with any questions.

welcome and hope you enjoy the build (it's almost as good as the paddling).

Be careful of advice from hairy, jack and oldsparky otherwise before you know it you'll be on your second build

post often and with picture and we'll all have an idea or two for you to consider.

When you have enough boats to equip a small Inuit village, you're getting close to the right amount.

And, you can quote me on that.

Not sure about supplying a small Indian village but I could outfit a small flotilla. They are like potato chips , one just will not do it.
You might start to consider the amount of the boats you have when the wife puts her hands on her hips and looks at you , then mutters .... " Your building another one" ..... followed with .... " Just where are you going to keep this one  "

Had a good day yesterday.
Stitched all the panels together just need to tighten them up and align everything.
Its great how quickly your boat takes shape with this method.
Once the hard work of cutting your panels is done, a few hours of drilling and stitching and there's a boat sitting in front of you.
Cool.
I already don't have anywhere to put this one, or to build it for that matter.
I'm building outside so i'm desperate to get finished before the weather turns.
Grey and wet today so not sure if any building today.
I took some pics and i'll try to post them soon as i can.
Loving the build.

Matt.

Hi Barneseye, If you tell us how you have tried to post your pictures we can tell you (maybe) what's going wrong. I'm not sure if you need to have the whole process explained or if something is just a bit wrong.

But before you do that can I suggest you start a thread in the builder's log section - it will make things easier for people like me who lose threads easily  .
Cheers, Bob
