Got caught out on Granger lake with 5 other Yakers when a out flow blew up and to be safe we paddled downwind to a beach area till it blew it self out  But the problem i had was the backend wanted to keep blowing around and made it tough to paddle  If i had a Rudder would this fix my problem and if so,how wide and deep would it have to be for a 14' kayak :?:

Most general purpose rudders for paddlecraft extend about 4-6" below the bottom of the hull. Some specialty ones go much deeper but are shaped very skinny. Other sailing rudder for canoes and kayaks are much bigger and have more "horizontal" size.

No,i was thinking the height would vary depending on mount and don't know what a standard rudder width is but was thinking 6-8 inchs for max control :?: Is this over kill :?:

I am installing one of these on my Sabalo. For $52.95, and free shipping, you can't beat the price. You don't have to wory about finding pulleys etc..... They are built in. I just ran down rigger wire through irrigation 1/4 inch drip tubing "conduit". You can also use braided line with the rudder rather than wire.

I like it because it lays flat against the deck when not in use.
