Digging through old posts to keep me pacified until I pick up wood tonight, I came across this statement:

"wheat flour makes a great filler for filets and is easier than sifting saw dust. Its also cheap."

There was no real response so I would like to get opinions/pros/cons.

Never used it. I guess it would work. I don't have a lot of saw dust in my area because I don't sand much "pure" wood. So to me, it's worth paying $5 to get clean, sifted, woodflour.

Now I have gotten lots of free woodflour (fine sawdust) from some local cabinet shops that works great.

From a totally non-expert point of view: flour is perfect. I considered using it myself at one stage but didn't.
wood dust and grain dust are the same thing pretty much, they are both plant material, i.e. cellulose. The difference is someone went to the trouble to mill it, package it and sell it in supermarkets. However the two are not totally interchangeable as you will learn if you try and bake with woodflour.

I use it a lot and it works well , light in color so a little sawdust mixed in
you can darken it like u want.

I like the idea that it is lighter, hopefully I will get a closer match to teh panels.

AND I can make a tasty snack while waiting for the filets to dry.

Would using whole wheat flour make the color match the wood better? You would also have a heart healthy boat.

That may be an option as long as the whole grain is as fine as the other stuff.

Some poppy seeds mixed in with the flour ( make sure it is not self rising) could mute the color down a pinch.
Himmmmmmmm .. I wounder if corn meal would be better with pine because of the light yeller color ? NAWwwwwww, to easy to confuse with the pine wood flour. Corn meal in the boat and fish filets rolled and cooked in wood flour ... YUCK....

I'm going to get a small amount of epoxy and start playing soon.

One thing to watch out for with whole wheat flour is that it has a higher oil content than white flour. And poppy seeds are pretty much dripping with oil. I don't know how well epoxy resin handles vegetable oils.
