Yes it was. I would bet money that at times we were making 12 MPH or so. And that was not even using the paddles.tx river rat wrote:But dang it was fun Chuck.

I'm eventually going to build both...
The Southwind I intend to deck out for solo fishing for me and occasionally for short trips with one of my kids (built the 15-30). I'll take it on the bays and lakes
The Sasquatch will be more recreational and will be used for floating down rivers and maybe an over night camp when I feel brave enough
If I had to build only one then I think the Southwind however a decked Sassy now that's not something I thought about...

Hey Matt, you ever thought about "a decked canoe design using the Sasquatch hull shape and panel count" ?? I think that would be, as they say, the bee's knees. Don't ask me who they are cause it's been a long time since I heard them say it, but I know it means something really good.
Sounds like the 2 designs are similar in hull performance but the deck of the Southwind gives it some advantage in wind and chop. So decking the Sasquatch would give it similar benefit I suppose. Is the difference in effect from the wind due to lower profile/sides in decked boats or the fact that the wind blows over the deck as opposed to catching the insides of an undecked boat?
I think the increased stability of the Sassy may be the difference for me. I rarely paddle lakes, but do rivers and creeks of varying flow, nothing WW though. I would like the ability to sit higher for seeing the fishies better, and for seeing over a small paddler that may be in the front but probably not much help in alerting me to on-rushing rocks, partially submerged logs, etc.
