Carry a sponge to empty those two sumps.

Kayak jack,
It's a live bait well for poddy mullet, I needed two on the odd chance that some dont get on and I need to segregate them.

They dont join at the centreline there is a quarter inch gap in the middle at the base, are you suggesting I open the gates a little to allow water movement?

Your choice. They will pool water. A gap in the center at the keel line would allow water to flow out so's you can sit in comfort, sponge at your feet soaking it up as it drizzles past, and wring it out overboard from time to time. Or, merely empty them at end of day, I guess.

OK next step is sand, sand and more sanding, I have a couple more questions for the master builders, if you don't mind.
Q1) Is there a distinct possibility that I have missed a step as I have noticed the beam width narrowing with the install of the gunwales. Could this be spread out again with the midsection thwart install. I pinked a spreader in and heard some lets say creaking sounds
Q2) What if, any, does the varnish coat pick up as far as a filler goes, do I need to have an absolute glass finish before the application of the varnish coats go on?
I would also like to add that this being my first build and an absolute learning curve as I progress, I recommend any novice to start first with something like this. What knowledge learnt and passed on by others I will take on my next Jem build and take it to the next level. Thats not blush you see inside I have started sanding some patches.
Matt,
There is something very addictive about all this having a ball.thx

Art,
If you're hearing creaking sounds, those are warning signs. I wouldn't try to stretch a rigid structure. You should follow Matt's plans, but make your thwart(s) a snug fit that can be put in and removed by hand, but will remain there by itself. Then secure it.
I use cord as a thwart. A thwart's purpose is to prevent the gunnels from spreading, not compressing.
