what is the best wood to use for gunwales? We have a local saw mill that will rip them for me from stock out of maple or oak leaning toward the maple.

My one problem is there isn't anyplace local to pick anything up and ordering from online sources don't work to well around here ups doesn't deliver here because it isn't a confirmed address. The usps here just sucks we have to go to the post office to get our mail if you recieve a large item in your mail they put a note in your box becuse the package will not fit in postoffice box and if you don't pick it up in 3 days they send it back to sender there is were the problem starts post office is closed when we get off work and isn't open when we go to work we can get our mail from box put nothing from inside post office then on saturdays they are only there to put mail in boxes witch sucks. They do not do mail delivery here. To go to anywhere that has stores big enough to buy much it is 40 dollars in gass to get there and wife about shot me when i went and spent 40 dollars in gas to go get plywood for the build. Witch she about shot me for the price of that to.
Pretty much we live in hickvillcentral in Il.
Mate, that sounds like my world
:D

I would rather put up with living in the bush, and having to work out inventive ways of dealing with freight etc. than live in the bloody city. I don't play well in crowds and have been called a redneck once or twice too

Thanks i will see if he has ash. I never have been a big fan of oak rather like the litter woods. Lol i love hickville can't stand the crowds but some times it sucks. I'm actualy called the biggest red neck here people used to ask where i lived and they would be told the house with the engine hanging in the tree lol. If icant build it shoot it or fix it I don't need it.

they're the bits that you're supposed to have left over after it's built.
