Got the main layer of fibreglass on the outside. Using 6oz X 30" wide stuff on the bottom for a bit more strength and abrasian resistance.

When it is filled with resin, will overlay some lighter stuff where the 30" matt didn't reach.

Wet out coat. This heavyweight matt requires a LOT more resin to wet out.



Two more fill coats and it still requires at least two more.

Aye god, Mick - you're going to have to get yourself on of those French knit caps, smoke a clay pipe, and become a voyageur. (You should be able to easily convert over from being a voyeur.)

Back to work for a couple of days now. Hope to get her off the strong back this week end and make a start on the inside.

Oh yearh, Yesterday, i found a local cabinet maker who stocks quality timber. I was able to source some 20' lengths of knot free, straight grain Hoop Pine for the gunnwales, thwartes and decks. Truly beautiful stuff.


Oh, Oh yeah,

The waves in the seam in the second piccie are a trick of the lights. There are no waves there.

Been struggling with a sumer time flu at the moment. It has slowed me down some and the heat on Saturday was just BS. No fun at all running a fever and trying to sand epoxy in it. Not sure what the temp was, but it was easily the hottest day this summer.

Was a little cooler today with a South Easterly change. Got her off the strong back and all the inside is filleted and pretty much, cleaned up.

Will post a couple of piccies tomorrow. just too crook to upload them now.

On a few days off at the moment (thank goodness) If I feel a bit better tomorrow, I should get the saturation coats on.

Gunwhales, - Rough sawn Hoop Pine - 20' lengths 3/4" X 1"outsde & 9/16" X 1" inside. Straight grain, knot free and light weight. Beautiful stuff.





While I was at the timber bloke's place the other day, I also picked up a piece of Hoop 1 1/2" X 6'' to cut down into the seat frames and thwartes.

I think I have found a new favourite wood.

I noticed a bulge in the sides of the top panel , Folks need to know this is a normal item till you get the rails on which true out the top of the canoe or boat.

Without anything to support the top there is always a bulge or mis shape but it vanishes when the support is there , as in the boat when completed.

I am sure Mick will have a picture of the after when the rails are on.....
