Goanywhere, does the graphite rub off when handling the boat or is it locked into the epoxy?

I had the day off today. I had a bad case of the 'runs' today, so I stayed home, but I wasn't feeling so bad that I couldn't do a little job close to the you-know-where.



And it comes apart for easy storage and stowing in the yak or car.


The yak will strap onto it easily.


I had the wheels and axle from a sack trolley I had. I just had to buy the PVC pipe and bits. The foam cost me $3 at a rubber store.

Goanywhere, does the graphite rub off when handling the boat or is it locked into the epoxy?

It's enclosed in the epoxy, just like filleting material. It will scratch off if the epoxy scratches off, but not otherwise.

Ok I have looked in the boat chandlers & couldnt find any & they didnt know where to get it when I asked for it to add to epoxy so I never got to coat the bottom of my 2 Wadefish. Now I know that you only used the dry lube bottles I will get some. . . . . . .

Boat chandlers don't know much about stitch and glue, much less epoxy and graphite to reduce abrasion. That sort of info is from insiders.

Tonight I primed the sides of the hull that I am going to paint. This is a 2 pack primer that is easy to sand but adds strength to the build as well.

Quite fancy the 'black bottom' myself. So dry-lube eh?

Latest update. Now painted on the sides with 4 coats of polyurethane paint. I started out with a yellow/orange mix, but the paint was not very opaque so I ran out of the yellow before it was solid enough in colour to cover the mottling of the undercoat that was sanded through in parts. So I had to do the last 2 coats in full orange. Actually I am kind of glad it turned out that way, the orange actually looks better than the deep yellow:









Now for a few coats of clear varnish up top and it is ready for cutting the forward and rear hatches, and fitting up the sailing reinforcements etc. and fitting up the rest of the hardware.

You can see in the background I am finishing the outriggers in matching livery.

Hopefully I will have it ready to sail by next weekend!

(It's going to be a big job cleaning up the mess in the carport when I'm finished! )
