Light weight options

Post by mosportsman »

I just bought the plans for the touring TV.

The light weight options say to tape the seams and just epoxy the wood between.

I got an idea because the boats I have built before start to check crack on wood that is not glass covered. I am going to use 1.4 oz cloth with 6 oz 3 inch tape on the seams.

I have seen the 1.4 oz cloth on paddle faces and it seems to hold up pretty well. I am planning on using the 1.4 oz on the interior also.

Do you think this cloth is just too delicate? I am trying to make it as light weight as possible for a very long endurance paddleing race. Using this thin cloth would I do better to give it a coat of epoxy let it dry and sand it then put on the light cloth?

Seems to me this would be lighter than kevlar or carbon that seem to come in no lighter weights than 3.4 oz per squ. yard.

I think it would help keep the face surfaces from checking. But not strong enough on its own for the seams.
