American Thanksgiving folklore is also based on two different cultures coming together to celebrate in unity, as one. I like to think that day was about just being together in celebration. No political agenda. No religious conversion attempts. No leaders looking to gain an advantage. I like to think on that day, the participants recognized that "others" or the "them" (instead of "us") had a face, a personality, concerns, hopes, and dreams. Distinct differences, but deep down mostly the same. To me, the principle of that day hundreds of years ago still translates to today and will for eternity.
To all my JEM friends, Happy Thanksgiving... even if you're culture doesn't recognize today as a holiday. Perhaps your Thanksgiving day already has taken place in your country or is yet to come. May you live in the spirit of what I think of as Thanksgiving!
