Stripped Freedom 15

I got all the routering done today and started installing the strips. I'm sorry but I was happy to be actually putting wood on the boat and forgot the camera till the end. Everything is going well, but I have a long way togo. Not hard to work with just tedious.





Alright if ya'll see anything wrong let me know now before I go any farther.

Well I see something wrong... you have to put wood on the entire boat and not just the sides.

You mean you designed a boat that has to be complete to float?

Looking good to me Darrell. In fact the only thing wrong is it's making me jealous .

Looks like you are using staples to hold the strips - how do you get them out without damaging the surface too much? I always have trouble removing nails or staples from a surface that needs to be kept in good condition - just can't seem to get them started without huge craters in the wood.

I am using 11/2 brad nails. Don't tell anyone but I pinned the safety back so I can hold the nail gun away from the wood about an inch so the nails don't drive all the way up. when ready to remove the nails take a thin scrap piece of wood to protect the hull and pull them with a claw hammer

You just be careful young fella - we don't want this thing to stop because you're in hospital.

Darrells looking great so far but I must advise you (tutor mode). That you are leaving yourself open to nails ricocheting around the workshop with this technique. Try firing through Styrofoam or use a tubular sleeve to retain any stray nails experiment before you loose an eye or worse! I see too many shop accidents on an annual basis to maybe think that we all take risks but these things don’t take prisoners

Tools have safety mechanisms on them I did not know that. Just kidding.

However, everyone knows that in order to shoot your older brother with a pneumatic stapler, you have to hold the safety back. After all, that SOB threw a rock and hit me in the eye. He deserved it.

I got a little more done today. It seems to be going well although slow. I am coming into the twists and bends of the hull now and its getting pretty tough to position the strips. thanks for the advice Gerald. They sure are'nt pretty until the nails are pulled and the hull is cleaned-up and sanded.
