Hang on to that old Singer. My Mom had one that was her Grandmothers. It had a foot treadle and leather belt. Looked very much like your electrified model.

okey dokey....... got the inside of the hull glassed....... that was fun..

one word... fly's. the insect kind.... blow fly's. getting into every thing, spent half my time picking the little bugger's off the resin.

Anyway, that was the hardest part over and done with, a few more weeks and I should be able to get her wet.

Mate, are you sure they were flies?

We got lots of flies here but they never go for the epoxy.

Native bees, look a lot like flies, same black colour and all, only a bit smaller. THEY LOVE EPOXY

Hundreds of them land in my resin. When it sets up, just lightly scrape them off with a pull scraper.

Had real good look at them, they are definatly flys. I don't think they were going for the epoxy on purpose, just buzzing everywhere and bumping into it.

I have been quite busy with work and honey do's... but I did get some time today, so I faired the outside of the hull. now when I can a few more spare hours I can glass the outside

OK.......The truck is now repaired

As long as nothing else goes majorly wrong (fingers crossed

), I can finish the laker. I have just glued the gunwal strips inside the hull, and am piecing fibreglass together on the inside of the top (well the front half anyway).

I am really hopeing to have her ready for summer (with any luck, by the end of winter)

The inside of the top is all glassed up... Bulkheads are being glued in... Hopfully, The top goes on this week

I just need to work out what I'm going to do about handles....I'm thinking of sewing up some webbing, but I'm not 100% sure yet

Lark, here's what I did. It may work for you, or it may serve as a springboard to better ideas.

In each stem end I have a hole through for a rope (finicky folks call it a painter). My bow and stern ropes are about 12'-15' long (I'm too lazy to go measure them right now.) I tie each one to the boat with a bowline knot. The loop of each bowline knot is large enough so it can lay up on the decks (some finicky folks call them breasthooks, but that sounds too painful to me.)

On each deck, I have two loops of small diameter bungee cords. My rope is looped under these for safe storage, and one grab of the rope in between the two bungee loops brings out the whole rope.

My "handles" are those two, bowline knots. The long loops are easy to slip my hand into so the knot is around the back of my wrist. I then grab hold of the lower part of the loop and pickup.

This configuration provides me a handle that is comfortable and will not pull loose under strain, bow and stern lines, safe storage, and quick access.

So how is it going?? I am glad Mick told you about the Native Bees. I have 13 hives and one is about 5 meters away from where I was planning to build my Laker. It might pay for me to shift it down the Coast when I am ready to start glassing in ernest. Nice tip Mick. As you can see I'm having a few struggles with the signature block and avatar. But I will get there.
