Hexion Epon 863

Anyone ever worked with this stuff? I can get a 1.3 gallon kit from an ebay store and it's much cheaper than West and System3 but I am also aware of "you get what you pay for".

This is a 3 to 1 mix and I see that West is a 5 to 1, is this any indicator of quality?

I've never heard of it.

It's been my experience that the higher mix ratio provide less quality. Not that's not a hard-and-fast rule for all epoxies. Just the ones I've worked with.

Wish I could provide more guidance. I do know that almost all marine epoxy comes from 3-4 sources. Epon is one of them. Maybe call them directly and ask who else they provide with a similar product?

Thanks guys. I thought West was 5 to 1 but I have been pulling in so much info I'm liable to confuse things.

I'm just being paranoid, when I saw the statement from West saying the 206 is not intended for clear coating I was starting to get nervous about what the finish would end up looking like if I use a cheaper epoxy, 206 instead of 207, etc... .

I use MAS (2-1 mix ratio)
The concern I would have about getting a "odd" brand off EBAY would be wether I could get more, 4 months from now if I found that I needed it to finish a boat. That is not a chance I would be willing to take.
